Sabouraud Dextrose Agar W/ Chloramphenicol is a material used for the isolation, culture and identification of pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi. Peptones provide a nutrient source of amino acids and nitrogenous compounds for the growth of fungi and yeasts. Dextrose is a source of energy for fungal growth. The pH is adjusted to about 5.6 in order to enhance fungal growth, especially dermatophytes, and to slightly inhibit bacterial growth in clinical specimens. Chloramphenicol is an antimicrobial that inhibits the growth of a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is available in a 100ml vial and is stored at 8-25?C.
